Leland House

The Leland House provides up to two years of housing, support, and training for mothers and their families seeking to recover from domestic abuse and homelessness.

Leland House is located in a renovated apartment building in the Lakeview Neighborhood on Chicago's north side.

It is a joint project of the Barnabas Project and Cornerstone Community Outreach, a ministry of the Jesus People USA Evangelical Covenant Church. The work of Leland House is supported by a grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, by contributions to the Barnabas Project, by Cornerstone Community Outreach, and by other grants and contributions.

The women of Leland House receiving training and assistance to enable them to become self-supporting when their stay is completed. They learn job skills, budgeting, and family care in a safe, caring environment.

A Leland mother tells her story:

My name is Sabrina, and I'm a single Mom at Leland House. I would like to take this time to say what a blessing Leland House has been for me and my three children. The counselors here are great. I thank God for them and their encouraging ways. Since my three children, ages 8 years, 5 years, and 1 year, have been at Leland House, my oldest daughter's grades have skyrocketed from C's and D's to A, B, and C in the seven months we've been here. I thank God for Leland House giving me another chance at becoming independent.
